TX-TERT Deployments

Hurricane Ike - 2008

On Sunday, September 14, 2008, in the wake of Hurricane Ike, a seven-member team was requested to assist Public Safety Answer Points (PSAPs) in the Houston area. During the Telecommunicator Emergency Response Taskforce (TERT) deployment, a total of thirteen teams were sent to help three PSAPs in Galveston, Harris, and Orange counties (Galveston County Sheriff’s Office, Seabrook Police Department, and Bridge City Police Department). This was the first TERT activation for Texas.

Hurricane Isaac - 2012

On Thursday, August 30, 2012, in the wake of Hurricane Isaac, an eight-member Telecommunicator Emergency Response Taskforce (TERT) was requested to assist at the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) in St. John the Baptist Parish, Louisiana. Texas deployed six TERT Telecommunicators and two TERT Team Leaders to assist the sheriff's office 9-1-1 center, whose staff had been working more than 40 hours without relief. This was the first state-to-state deployment by TERT, and the first deployment that recognized 9-1-1 as a resource during a FEMA-related incident.
